Courses

The Viking Loom Ltd has an extensive programme of one day workshops and weekly classes, from jewellery making for beginners and the more advanced to felt making, quilting and embroidery techniques. 

You can reserve your place at any class by printing off the booking form at the bottom of this page and sending it with a non-returnable deposit of £25.00

REGULAR CLASSES

Embroidery class on Tuesday mornings with Josie Storey 9.30 am - 12.30 pmjosie.1

January 19th - February 9th (4 sessions) £32

An industrious happy class loosely base around embroidery. Josie really brings out the best in everyone. You will learn to stitch beyond your imagination. Please bring your own materials.
 

Beading for Novices, Tuesday evenings with Collette Simpson 7.00 - 9.00 pmshop images and new products 035

April 13th & 27th, May 11th, June 4th (4 sessions) £44 including materials

Collette us a patient and thorough teacher and brings lots of lovely designs to each class. As a beginner you will learn how to make necklaces and professional finish earrings too. As the class progresses you will move onto some more intricate designs using a needle and thread.

April 20th, May 4th & 18th, June 15th (4 sessions) £44 including materials 

Collette introduces different stitches each time as well as offering crocheted an knitted wirework and straight threading too. You will never be short of a necklace , but you will need some new outfits to go with them!
 

Quilting on Wednesday evenings with Lynn Hillier 7.00 - 9.00 pmQUILTINGWORKMODEL

January 13th, February 10th, March 17th, April 21st (4 sessions) £28

Constructive and friendly monthly quilting with Lynn who provides guidance and help each evening. A great forum for ideas and techniques. You must bring your own sewing machine and materials - some items can be bought on the night

February 23rd - 30th March (6 sessions) £48

A great class for people who enjoy tapestry and canvaswork. Beginners and rusty stitchers are very welcome to join. Generally this is a class where people do their own thin under Wendy’s supervision, but we do also tackle projects. Last year, most of the class completed beautiful samplers of canvaswork stitches on sprayed canvas, using an assortment of threads and ribbon. Wendy always has a delicate and very pretty idea tucked up her sleeve to share with us.
 

The Tuesday and Thursday morning classes run throughout the Summer and Autumn months. The Wednesday evening class runs throughout the year. Tuesday evening classes run from April to November only. Future dates will be given as they approach.

DAY WORKSHOPS - 2010 programme

Machine Embroidery with Carol Coleman

We feel very lucky that Carol has moved into our area - she is a hugely accomplished embroiderer and textile artist. She has created wearable pieces of jewellery machine embroidered, embellished and quirky and this is what she will be teaching us! We have booked Carol for 3 dates - they do all require some experience of machine embroidery. Please being your own sewing mcarole_colemanachine.

Saturday 23rd January 9.30 am - 3.30 pm, Brooches and Bracelets £40
Machine embroidered brooches or a watch bracelet using cold water dissolving film. If you would like to make a watch bracelet, then please bring a watch face with you.

Saturday 20th March 9.30 am - 3.30 pm, Everlasting Notebooks £40
This uses a shrink wrapping technique, machine embroidery and lots of embellishment.

Saturday 17th April 9.30 am - 3.30 pm, Set in Stone £45
Machine embroidered jewellery using cold water dissolving film
 

Felting with Christine Cook

Christine is a very clear thinking teacher - she makes felting and creating with felt easy! She has really inspired us all in the shop and even our least keen beader now has some felting wool! We have lots of fantastic coloured wool’s in the shop.felt-scarf-1

Make a beautiful felt scarf. These scarves are really fine and soft - this is not felt as we know it! A great technique and a superbly professional result

Saturday 6th March - 2 classes running. Attend one for £17 or both for £30

Make felt beads for threading on to jewellery wire or cordfelt-bag

Making felt flowers to adorn your hat or jacket.

Create your own felt bag to create that unique item that looks great!

Crewelwork with Philippa Turnbullphilipas clas pic

Philippa has really put crewelwork back on the map and rejuvenated an intricate part of our heritage in doing so. She has a great passion for rooting out old pieces and recreating then, finding different stitches and techniques in the process.

We have 2 days this year - one for beginners and one for those who have already had a go. both days will work from a printed design on the best twill in the business, with wools plus a variety of embellishing threads and possibly the odd bead.

We will have a talk at the end of each day whilst you have a rest from stitching and enjoy a cup of tea and cakes!

Course 1 - Beginners Day
£58 for the day including talk.

Tuesday 9th November, 9.30 am - 4.00 pm

Just the class to join if you have never been before and would like a go. A really enjoyable day.crewelworkimage

3.00 - 4.00 pm - talk and show for beginners in Crewelwork. £5 if you wish to come along to this but not join in the class earlier.

Course 2 - Not for the Faint Hearted!
£58 for the day including talk
Wednesday 10th November, 9.30 am - 4.00 pm

Crewelwork where you can learn some new stitches. Use metallic threads, variegated wool and cotton perle too.

3.00 - 4.00 pm - Crewelwork from our British Castles. Philippa will talk and show some of her finds on her forays into our needlework heritage.. £5 if you wish to come along to this but not join in the class earlier.

 

Handstitching with Maureen BoyesSDC10910
Wednesday 31st March, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm, £40

Maureen is going to teach us the basics of needlework. You will stitch and make up a lovely padded scissor keeper, learning how to make cord and use beads to give your work that perfect finishing touch. This is the ideal course for beginners who are just starting to cross stitch and would like to learn more.
 

Wirework Jewellery with Chrissie Day
Saturday 8th May 10.00 am - 3.30 pm, £40 Chrissie-Day
Monday 25th October 10.00 am - 3.30 pm, £40

As a published author of knitting and felting titles and and experiences teacher of all things textiles, Chrissie is a whizz at giving you confidence with colour in design!

Chrissie is teaching 2 days with us this year - both day will offer 2 pieces of wirework jewellery from a vast selection of designs that Chrissie will bring with her. We can guarantee that you will impress yourself under the tutorage of Mrs Day!
 

Quilt Days with Lynn Hillier

These are small classes where you can bring your own work or Lynn will show you how to begin and how to create a series of blocks which can be put together to make a cushion or small sampler quilt.BUN001

This class will get you started and afterwards leave you keen to complete some more.

Course 2 - Doing a Little Bit More! £25
Saturday 13th March 10.00 am - 2.00 pm

This class will cater for those people who have already completed some blocks or some work of their own and would like to make some further pieces to add to their collection.
