We can hardly believe that Christmas is only a week away.  We will close at 4 pm on Wednesday 21st December and will reopen at 10 am on Tuesday January 3rd 2017.

We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas  and thank everyone for your continued support throughout 2016.  It's been a great adventure for us with our huge move from the city centre but we think it's been highly successful and are so appreciative of you all for coming to visit our new premises.

Here's to a fantastic 2017!

There have been sooooo many classes already this year but we've still got loads more lined up for you.  We've even started booking classes for 2017 and will be adding more as the weeks go on.  You can pick up a class list in the shop or print one off here

It's not that far away now and it seems people are getting the Christmas crafting bug already. Today in the shop we have had a lady who is busy making Christmas angels, a few people who haven't been able to resist our lovely 'Jolly Penguin' quilt panel and the festive fabrics are causing a bit of a stir. So, although everyone wants to avoid bugs, maybe the 'Christmas Crafting Bug' is one you maybe should think about exposing yourself to? Oh, and we forgot to mention that the good old 'Chickadees and Berries' panel is back in stock - great for making placemats.

Collette is teaching her final beading class for the year tomorrow on Tuesday 16th August - now running in the afternoon rather than the original evening slot.  Take a break from the monotony of the housework, come a do something fun!  £15 for the afternoon including ALL materials, running from 1.30 - 4.00 p.m.

That's a bit of a tongue twister isn't it?!?!  We've introduced a new social group that runs a couple of times a month throughout the year on a Monday.  Come along any time between 10.30 and 4.00, bring your project and actually have the time to do some of it without being interrupted by the window cleaner, the dog requiring breakfast/walking/general fussing, the kids, the husband, the list goes on and on and on!

But seriously, we understand that some projects require a bit of space and we've got oodles of that so come along and take advantage of it.  It's a great way to get to meet other crafters, and we will provide tea and coffee so it's a no brainer really.  Spend a couple of hours or the whole day with us, it really is up to you.

Reserve your place online or simply turn up.  Check the dates online - and hopefully we will see you soon.  New class list available here

The quilt club started off as a once a month Wednesday evening session but it has proved so popular it keeps growing and evolving. Each month, we have 3 sessions running – you can come to all three each month, come to one particular session on a regular basis or swap and change between the three to give you more flexibility. Sessions run at the following times: Wednesday afternoon – 1.00p.m. until 4.00 p.m. Wednesday evening – 7.00 p.m. until 9.00 p.m. Friday afternoon – 12.00p.m. until 3.00 p.m. These relaxed friendly groups are a mixture of experienced and beginners in quilting – this is a really good class for new quilters to attend as the students pick up techniques and ideas from each other with Lynn on hand to assist. Bring along a project that you would like to do or have already started and Lynn will guide you along giving great tips and ideas. Lynn is a very patient teacher, providing guidance and help each session.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine (if you are machine stitching), materials and equipment to these classes but we will provide the tea/coffee and biscuits!

About every 4 - 6 weeks, we send out a newsletter of what's been happening, what's going to be happening and of new stock/services that we have at the Viking Loom.  It's a great way to keep up to date on special offers, class additions and other information and we NEVER share your details - we keep them to ourselves.  If you would like to join the mailing list, signing up is VERY easy.

If you would like to take a look at the latest edition, you can do so here.

You can now order Appleton's wools from us online.  We stock skeins of both crewel and tapestry wool, and can order hanks in if you have a project that will require bulk amounts, which is a much more cost effective way of buying large quantities.  Crewel wool is 2 ply and tapestry wool is 4 ply.  For details on quantities please visit the website

We've spent the last couple of days updating our extensive class list with new dates in freehand machine embroidery and quilting.  We've introduced some Friday and Saturday afternoon sessions that are a great social group where you can craft and meet like minded people.  We've lined up another date for the Santa Patchwork Sampler Panel as the first one is fully booked now.

Last year, Sally at Hippystitch got in touch with us to let us know about the yarn bombing event she was planning.  Anyone that saw the Poppies in the Park installation will probably agree that the end result was pretty amazing?  And so you will be pleased to hear that Sally is running the project again, this year focussing on Fantasy Fish.  If you can knit, crochet, felt, sew or offer lots of support/enthusiasm/donation of materials, Sally would love to hear from you.  There are details of what's happening when on the Hippystitch website so take a look and get involved.

Once the installation is removed, the fish will be sold off to raise funds for the York Flood Appeal and so if you can't help making the fish, you may be interested in offering your support in the form of giving a fish a home?

What's a 'What-Not' we hear you ask?  Some of you may already know because we ran this class a few years back and we've been asked to do it again.  And so, not wanting to disappoint, we are!

A What-Not is a very useful piece of kit that you can stash your sewing equipment in, fold up and pop in your bag so you always have a needle, threads, buttons and more to hand.

This class is running with Stuart Hillard in our fabulous classroom here at Wigginton Lodge.  Stuart has the amazing ability of making you feel that nothing is impossible and will fill you with confidence.  You don't need many materials, always a bonus, and most of them you are likely to have lying around, just waiting to be used.  You know, those fat quarters you just had to buy but still haven't used (sound familiar?)

Book online or by giving us a ring at the shop on 01904 620587, this class is running on 20th April from 9.30 - 4.30 at a cost of £30 plus materials. We think you will love it.  Here's a picture of the What-Not in open and closed position, along with a couple of pictures of the bags that students made at last weeks 'Quilted and Lined Bag' class.  We love what they made and the difference their choice of fabrics made to the end result.

We updated the class list and have some more dates for the quilt afternoons and the evening class too.  These have been really well attended recently and they have ALL booked up so if you want to attend, book your place as soon as you can.  We also have a brand new quilting class that runs on Friday, once a month.  It's an informal session where you bring along your work and we will all sit and stitch together.  We think this has the potential to be a great 'meet up with other quilters' session and will introduce you to like minded people in the area.  It's also a great class for all abilities, from beginners to advanced, because is with give you the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by each other.

The updated class list is available here and you can reserve your place in person at the shop, over the phone by ringing 01904 620587 or by visiting the website.  If you need any help or advice about which class is best for you, don't hesitate to drop us a line.

We've been moved out of High Petergate for almost 2 weeks which means that the new shop has been up and running for almost 2 weeks.  It's been a great experience for us and we are feeling positive about the future.  We've had a steady stream of visitors and all have been very complimentary about the new layout.  It's a great way for you to come along and have a look at classes in full swing and so help you decide which is the best session for you to attend.  Take a look at our list of classes so you know what is going on when so that you can plan your visit according to what takes your interest.  The kettle is always on, and although it's horrible and miserable outside, you will always be greeted with a smiley face.

We are now at Wigginton Lodge, Wigginton Road, York YO32 2RH.  We have kept our phone number (01904 620587) and if you do get lost, please give us a call.  We will do our best to direct you.  You can also download a copy of the directions here.

We are open Monday - Saturday from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. (excluding bank holidays)

The shop has now moved from High Petergate.  It's been a funny few weeks, getting ready to open the doors at Wigginton Lodge and getting ready to close the doors on High Petergate for good and that's it, it's done.  We are now fully open and operational at our new premises, the same place that we've always run our classes.  There is oodles of space for us to be able to display products and there is oodles of free on site parking so you don't have to worry about how long you have been with us - it really doesn't matter anymore.

We will make you a cuppa, you are welcome to come along with a project you need help with, and if the classroom is free, come along and take advantage of the space we have.  We are also in the process of getting our 'lending library' up and running.  We've got loads of books, magazines and pamphlets that you can borrow for a couple of weeks.

Added on 8th February 2016

Wigginton Lodge, the home of our NEW shop, is 90% ready.  The open weekend last weekend was amazing but as of Monday we expect it be even more amazing!

High Petergate is open until 5 pm on Saturday 6th February, so take the opportunity to grab some last minute fabric bargains, a few threads, or just generally have a wander through the shop for the very last time.  We are sad to be leaving but excited for what lies in store.

Added on 3rd February 2016

It's the 1st of February - what on earth happened to January?  Maybe it's because we've been so engrossed in getting ready to move out of the city centre to our new premises that the whole month seemed to pass by in a complete and utter flash?  We are on the final week of trading at High Petergate but are still open as normal from 9.30 until 5.00 with the door finally closing on Saturday 6th February.  But don't panic, we are NOT closing, we are simply moving to better premises - more details here

Added on 1st February 2016

Sorry, you're too late to book onto this class as it is now full.  But we do have a waiting list just in case anyone can't make it, so if you would like to put your name down to take the place of any cancellations, get in touch.

Added on 26th January 2016

It's been a fun few weeks here at the Loom.  We've been moving things around in the High Petergate shop, which has been a bit chaotic but we are managing to keep on top of things and more importantly, we are prioritizing keeping the shop open and looking like a shop until the big move.  There's nothing worse than a business that is in the process of moving looking like a bomb has hit and we are doing our very best to avoid this.  Things may not be in the same place as you remember them being - just ask and we will find it for you.
The barn at Wigginton Road is coming along nicely and we are counting down to our launch weekend which is Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January.  We envisage that we will be  85% set up for the weekend event, but there may be a little bit of tweaking to do after the doors at 22 High Petergate shut for good.
That's not to say we won't be ready and waiting for you on the 30th because we most definitely will.  We would love you to come along, have an nosey and maybe have a cup of tea with us.  The retail area is open all weekend, and on the Sunday we will be running some demonstrations to tempt you to join a class or 4.  There's no better way to find out what goes on in the classes by actually meeting the tutors and seeing what they do.

Added on 19th January 2016

It's nearly the time for the annual York Residents Festival - running this year on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January.  There are all sorts of things going on all over the city INCLUDING our grand launch of our new retail premises at Wigginton Lodge, Wigginton Road.  We are open from 10 - 4 each day and on Sunday there will be a variety of demo's from our tutors.  Come along and have a go, be tempted to begin a new hobby.  NON RESIDENTS ARE WELCOME TOO.  DON'T FEEL LEFT OUT - COME AND MINGLE WITH THE LOCALS

We have LOTS of parking on site and it's free!  No costly parking charges, no flustered journey's on the Park and Ride.  Pull up outside and enjoy a cup of tea with us while browsing and investigating just what is going on at the Viking Loom.

The High Petergate shop is still open so if you can't make it out the the Lodge, please pop in to the shop.  It would be lovely to see you before we move once and for all.

For more details on our new premises click here

Added on 11th January 2016

In preparation for the big move, we are having a good old move around of stock which has uncovered some items that have been hiding away.  We've also started to reduce down selected cross stitch, embroidery and books along with ALL Christmas card craft and cross stitch cards.  Come and rummage in the middle room and on the table under the stairs.

The 'To Let' board went up outside the shop last week and that seems to have lead to speculation and maybe a little bit of gossip too.    The Viking Loom is definitely NOT closed and we are definitely NOT closing.  We are simply relocating from High Petergate to Wigginton Lodge on the outskirts of York

The shop is most definitely open in High Petergate for the time being.  We haven't had a confirmed date of when the Lodge shop will be up and running but don't worry.  As soon as we know, you will let you know.

Added on 23rd December 2015

We've just had a lovely man call in to the shop with an item he found outside his house in a bag on the pavement.  Someone has been stitching a wedding sampler for Philippa and Stephen but must have dropped in when they were on their travels.  He brought it to us because it also had one of our framing price lists in the bag so it must be one of our customers.  He found it on Harrison Street in Heworth and we would be really happy if you could maybe help us reunite it with its owner.  Although it's not quite finished, there is a lot of work gone into it and I imagine the owner of this will be gutted.  Please share around your Facebook pages.

Added on 23rd December 2015

There have been a lot of sleepless nights going on at the Viking Loom.  The reason for this is that we have been faced with a very big decision and it's taken ALOT of deliberation.  We've 'ummed' and 'arghhed' over it but we've done it.  The decision to make was 'do we stay in York city centre or do we relocate to bigger premises on the outskirts of York?'

And so, early 2016, we will be moving lock, stock and barrel out of High Petergate where we've been for an eternity (29 years to be exact).  We are moving out to Wigginton Lodge, Wigginton Road, York YO32 2RH which has lots of onsite FREE parking (no more expensive car parking or flustered journeys on the bus).  We have a lot more space at Wigginton Lodge, fondly known as the Barn - we currently hold our classes here and already have a small retail area but we will be expanding both sides of the business at the Barn.

We have LOTS of classes already booked, well into the New Year and have already started planning the layout of the retail area.

We are definitely NOT closing - we are moving so that we can evolve and move with the times.  The mail order and online side of the business will be totally unaffected by the move, and although we realise that lots of people pop in to the shop as they are passing, the Barn will be open each weekday and selected Saturdays.  We will still be closed on Sundays and bank holidays as we like to have a little rest and spend time with family.

The phone number will stay the same as it is now and so will the email address.  The only thing that will change is our address.

We really hope that you will continue to support us in our new venture - the feedback so far has been VERY positive and lots of people have said that our new location suits them even better, so we are hopeful that this is a good thing for us.

Well, that's a bit of a white lie but we did have a lady call in with a tapestry of Prince Charles that she had completed.  We finished it off for her by stretching it back into shape before framing it.  She now has it proudly on display in the little boys and girls room - not sure how I would feel spending a penny with an him watching me!

We offer lots of finishing off services - framing, bell pulls, cushion making up.  Take a look a list of costs by clicking here.

DON'T MISS OUT ON A FABRIC BARGAIN!  Right now we have a pre-Christmas fabric bonanza running in the shop where you can pick up a metre of top quality 100% cotton fabric for only £7.00 (normally £13.20)!  Or any 4 assorted fat quarters for £10.00 (normally £14.00).  They won't be around forever - some fabrics listed online but there are more in the shop.  Phone orders also taken.

Due to other commitments, we haven't been able to make it to the show for the last couple of years, but that doesn't mean you can't make the short (and

worthwhile) trip to York to see us. We are open from 9.30 - 5.00 Monday to Saturday and at the moment, we have a fantastic offer on fabrics that you just can't miss. Choose from a selection of fabrics, that retail on average at £13.20 a metre, but for a limited time, pay only £7.00 per metre - yes you are reading that correctly! We also have a selection of fat quarters priced at 4 for £10.00 instead of the usual price of £14.00. It's a win win situation and we hope you will pop in soon. We are very easy to find - right next to the Minster which you can't miss. Situated on High Petergate, next to La Cremeria where you could pop in and have a coffee or an ice cream to recharge your batteries.

We are feeling very proud with ourselves. Not only do we still have a number of classes left to run up to the end of the year, we also have some dates secured for next year!  Dates for quilting with Stuart were released yesterday and we've already taken some bookings so it looks like they are going to be very popular again.  In view of this we really do recommend that you book early.  And if you are looking for a Christmas present for someone, but aren't sure which class they would like to book onto, don't worry.  The simple solution is to buy gift vouchers which can be used for the payment of class bookings.

We've heard that this Saturday is National Sewing Day so we are running a 'festive bunting' drop in session in the shop.  We are all getting organised for the big day (only 72 more sleeps to go) and we have a number of festive bunting kits available in the shop.  Before you tackle a bigger project, why not come along on Saturday and make a small snowman garland with guidance from our lovely staff?

Come along any time between 10.00 a.m and 4.00 p.m. and get to grips with how to make the flags before stringing them and adding embellishments.  There is a small charge of £5.00 for this project but all materials are included and you will be the proud owner of a small festvie swag to take home with you.

As of today, you will have to pay 5 pence for a plastic carrier bag in all stores that have more than 250 employees. Although we have no where near that number of staff members, we do try to encourage you to do without a plastic carrier bag unless it really is necessary. It's surprising how many people ask for a carrier when they've bought only a couple of very small items which would tuck into their handbags.
If you really need a carrier, we are more than happy to give you one but maybe you would consider giving a small donation to Sooty who sits on our counter ready to be fed coins.

If you thought you'd missed out on the 'Learn to Machine Quilt' class and the 'Paris Flea Market Bag' class, then it's your lucky day!  We have 2 spaces that are still available at each class but don't hang around because they won't be there for long!  Please call the shop on 01904 620587 to reserve your place, or alternatively email - no online booking for these ones.

Added on 15th September 2015

We have been having a lot of deliveries of fabric recently, some Christmas and some for all year round.  As always, our fabrics are top quality 100% cotton which is why they are a little bit more expensive than some fabrics you might find.  But we find the better the quality of the fabric, the easier it is to stitch and so your finished project will look sooooooooo much better!

Some are already listed online, and we hope to get the rest on before it sells out in the shop.

We're sorry to say that we are losing a valued member of staff.  Because of this, we are looking for a new person to join our friendly team in September.  We are looking for someone to work each Saturday from 12 - 5 with the opportunity to cover some staff holiday and lunch time shifts and so flexibility is desirable.
You must have retail and/or customer service experience and a crafting background as you will need to be able to advise customers on a variety of craft products and techniques on a daily basis.  You need to able to work well in a small team and be able to use your initiative.  We need someone reliable that can work year round rather than term time or holiday time only and so unfortunately this position isn't suitable unless you live in the York area full time.  We welcome your application if you have the relevant experience and skills.
If you would like to apply for the position, please drop us a line, by email or post.  We'd like to hear a little bit about you, what experience you have and why you think you are the person for the job.  Please include your C.V. with your application, along with the name and contact details of 2 referees.  We won't contact any of your referees prior to interview.

Good luck - we're looking forward to hearing from you.

If you are local to York, we would recommend that you pop down to Rowntrees Park to have a look at the yarn bombing project on display at the tennis courts near to the Lirbrary Cafe.  It was organised by Sally at Hippystitch and it really is worth the trip down there.  There are poppies of all shapes, sizes and in a huge range of mediums that make it very interesting indeed.  It won't be there forever so don't wait too long - and you could even sit out in the sunshine at the cafe with a lovely homemade cake!

If you are making a quilt, especially a large one, the hopefully you have discovered fusible wadding?  If not then you really should have because it makes life soooooooo much easier than the standard method of pinning and basting the layers together.

It's really simple to use - Lay the backing fabric on a table, right side down. Lay the wadding on top and smooth it out.  Lay the quilt top on top of that, right side up.  With your iron set on a dry cotton setting, start from the middle and iron to the outside edge. Use an even circular motion and keep the iron moving to avoid scorching the quilt. Once the right side is finished, flip it over, straighten the backing if necessary and iron the other side. You are now ready to quilt.

Stuart Hillard, who teaches here for us at the Viking Loom, uses it all the time.  Available to buy online now

So, you've bought memory wire and have used your standard wire cutters to cut it?  BIG mistake!  You've probably just discovered that firstly, it is a nightmare to cut, and secondly, you end up with annoying nicks in the blade of your wire cutters unless you use the correct tools.

Memory wire shears are the only thing to use. They cut with very little effort, you get a good neat flat cut and they are VERY hard wearing.

Last year we had the Tour de France commerorative quilt competition which was hugely successful in raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the British Heart Foundation.
This year we are supporting York Against Cancer.  The charity is passionate about promoting healthy living and that is what the theme of this years quilt is.  You can interpret this how you wish - excerise, diet, York, the charity itself etc.  Translate your idea onto a square of fabric that will be made up into a quilt and then be raffled off to raise even more funds!
The finished item will be on display in the shop window for the public to vote for their favourite piece over the summer months  and whoever gets the most votes will win a prize!
Get your thinking caps on - the closing date is Tuesday 30th June.   You can purchase your entry pack online here.

Set up 3 or 4 years ago, the York Crafters Trail is passionate about promoting independant craft based businesses in the heart of our city.  Over the years, the leaflet has been picked up by 1000's of visitors who can't quite believe how lucky we are to have so many fabulous craft suppliers!  We are pleased to welcome 2 new members to the trail - Monk Bar Model Shop and PaperPod.

The leaflet is about to go to the printers and should be ready within a week or so - as soon as we have it, it will be making an appearance at the Visit York tourist information centre, as well as in each of the 10 businesses that are currently involved.  But for the time being, you can have a sneaky peek here.

Thank you so much to Jools who attended one of our recent quilting classes with Stuart Hillard.  She was kind enough to give us an amazing review  and we are so delighted with it, that we have had to put it online for all to see!

Overall Rating *****

This was, by far, the best workshop I have ever attended. The organisation and hosting were superb - thanks to Romy, who even welcomed me in the car park and offered to carry my sewing machine!!! The converted barn in which the course was held was spacious, light and comfortable, with ample room to work. Stuart, our tutor, was such an inspiring tutor and was so helpful, encouraging and friendly. He had meticulously planned the session so that once we had become confident with the basics of machine quilting, - sewing straight lines and curves - we were able to practice more challenging patterns. By the end of the workshop I felt I had mastered a new skill, which, with practice, I should be able to develop and perfect. A fantastic day overall. A wonderful tutor, a friendly atmosphere, inspiring and great fun.

After a very long absence, we are pleased to welcome back the good old 'Able Stretcher' to our shelves.  If you haven't encountered one of these genius bits of kit, they are sturdy, adjustable, reliable frames for all areas of needlework.  Very very easy to assemble and to mount your work in place, these plastic frames are lightweight but hold your work firmly in place with very little effort needed to clip in place.  As they are so lightweight, we have a lot of customers who take them away on holiday as they take up very little space and weight allowance in your suitcase.  Available in a range of sizes, you will wonder how you managed without one of these!

These great little gadgets are fabulous for using up small scraps of fabric.  They come in a variety of sizes, from very small to really big and are available in the shop.  They are REALLY easy to use and we can make one yo-yo in a couple of minutes.  We've demonstrated them sooooo many times in the shop, and we've found this great tutorial on how to use these amazing little discs.  Click here for a short video

So you've embarked on quilting or having a go at cross stitch for the first time and it's not going to plan?  Yes, that sounds very familiar!

Don't worry, we'll give you a helping hand before you resort to throwing it out the window!

As well as working very hard in the shop, we all have our talents in the crafting world so we are more than happy to put you on the road to recovery with your project.  Pop in and see us for a bit of advice on the topic of your choice:

  • Monday - Judith is very talented in the world of sewing and jewellery making and responsible for our more quirky worked models on display.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday - Nicola will have a go at pretty much anything - quilting isn't her strong point though, so you'll have to wait till later in the week for that!
  • Wednesday and Thursday - Alison has been dressmaking for an eternity so is well qualified to help with your sewing projects.  She's pretty good at needlework too.
  • Thursday and Friday - Lynn is a whizz at quilting and has been doing it for a VERY long time - there's not alot she doesn't know!
  • Friday and Saturday - June is another quilter and although we don't do knitting or crochet, she's very good at these too!
  • Monday and Saturday - Fran, a former teacher of art, is incredibly talented in a vast range of crafts - we particularly like her embroidery work so pop in for a few tips and a bit of inspiration.

So you see, there is absolutely no need to suffer in silence or pull your hair our.  We CAN make it work for you x

Added on 10th January 2015

If you have managed to get into the shop recently, you may have noticed we have a new member of staff?

Fran joined us at the end of 2014 and as well as being great in the shop, she is a fantastic artist!  We've been admiring the bits and pieces she's been working on in her spare time, so much so that we've persuaded her to share her talents with you.  We will be shortly releasing the dates for her new 'Machine Embroidery' classes.  Fran will be offering practical workshops introducing and exploring the use of freehand machine stitching combined with different applique techniques with a view to creating your own unique image.

Take a look at some of Fran's work - we are certain that you will be as impressed as we are!

We have a demonstration evening on Saturday 10th January 2015.  Our 2015 tutors will be coming along to show you what we have planned for the year.  Come along, join us and be inspired to take up a new craft or revisit one that you haven't had time for recently!  Always a great event - pre booking essential.  As with all our classes, this event will be held at our workshop near Wigginton, NOT at the shop.  You will need your own transport.  There is plenty of free on site parking.

We can't quite believe that we only have 6 Saturdays left until Christmas is upon us?!  We know that everyone is working to a budget and with that in mind, we are currently putting little gift boxes of goodies together that mostly cost under £10 so won't break the bank.  There is a choice of sewing, cross stitch, tapestry and beading gift boxes at present - if you have a specific idea of what you want, we can put that together for you too so don't be afraid to ask.

To complement our range of fantastic sewing boxes that make a perfect Christmas present, we have 'tool packs' to fill them with.  Thinking of budgets, we have a choice of packs - one under £10 and one under £20.

We had a delivery of Decopatch today, with some lovely papers and larger shapes arriving.  Santa's elves will be putting together gift packs of these too - containing a Decopatch blank shape, decorative paper, glue, brush and instructions on how to complete (really easy and suitable for all ages from young children right up to your granny!)

And if you are still stuck for what to buy, don't forget we also sell gift vouchers!

The Tour de France is now in home territory after a fantastic start in sunny Yorkshire.  Our favourite riders have crashed out of the competition unfortunately but that doesn't mean that YOU  can't be a winner!

The quilt competition that we ran has been incredibly successful and the completed item is now hanging in our shop window for all to see.  We are selling raffle tickets (funds being raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care and British Heart Foundation) at £1 each.  You can buy these in the shop or purchase 5 via the online shop.  The winning ticket will be drawn in September.

You can also help one of the creators of the 48 squares be crowned 'King or Queen of the Quilt' by voting for your favourite design.  It's a very tough choice and as yet there is no clear leader so let us know which is your most admired square and we'll add your vote to the list!

This weekend sees the start of the iconic bike race and  we can confirm that Tour de France fever has well and truly hit York - there are yellow bikes and bunting EVERYWHERE!!!  Not to be outdone, we now have our amazing commemorative Tour de France quilt in the window of the shop and we are overwhelmed by the entries that were recieved - well done  to everyone that entered and a huge thank you for your help in raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The British Heart Foundation.  Take a look at the article that appeared in yesterdays York Press.

If you would like to continue to support these 2 amazing charities, why not buy a raffle ticket or two and be in with a chance of winning this piece of art?  And while you are at it, please vote for your favourite square too - the one with the most votes will be crowned winner!  Tickets available in the shop and online.

We had a great day on Saturday putting together the 48 completed squares that we received for the Tour de France commemorative quilt.  The variety of designs has been amazing and we spent the afternoon sewing them all together ready to display in the window in time for the race arriving in York on July 6th.  And even better, the project has so far raised around £100 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The British Heart Foundation.  You can continue supporting these 2 charities by entering the raffle to win the quilt, which will be on display in the window by the end of the week.
